Chris Froome keeps red jersey dreams alive as Fabio Aru narrowly beats him to stage win

The battle for the red jersey is well and truly still on at the 2014 Vuelta a Espana, as Chris Froome reignited the GC battle on stage 18.

The Team Sky man may have been narrowly beaten to what would have been the first British Grand Tour stage win of the season by Fabio Aru, but having clawed back some valuable seconds to red jersey Alberto Contador and moved up to second overall, Froome was still a big winner on the day.

Denied the eagerly-anticipated battle between Contador and Froome at the Tour de France as both succumbed to race-ending crashes, pro cycling’s fans are being treated to some enthralling late-season action in Spain.
