The 2014 Vuelta a Espana took place between 23rd August - 14th September 2014, starting on the Spanish south coast with an amazing opening stage hosted by Jerez de la Frontera. Vuelta a Espana 2014 saw 198 riders split into 22 teams with riders including the likes of Contador, Froome, Quintana, Valverde, Joaquim Rodriguez, Aru, Uran, Evans, Cancellara and Tony Martin.
The race was made up of a three week cycling tour of Spain, including 20 stages consisting of eight mountain stages, five hill stages, five flat stages and three trials. There were many ups and downs, but from the 10th stage Alberto Contador took the red jersey taking precedence for the rest of the race which saw him win 1'10'' over the runner up, Chris Froome.
