We’ve just had a press release in which it would be a dereliction of duty not to share with you. A Funeral Director has announced sponsorship of a local cycling club.
Co-operative Funeral Care of Rochdale inform us that they’re proud new sponsors of Rochdale Leisure Wheels Cycling Club and have provided brand new shirts for team members, replete with Co-operative Funeralcare’s logo, which some of the team members are modelling below: Not all looking wholly thrilled, I must say.
While it’s easy for us to make cheap laughs out of a Funeral director sponsoring a cycling club, there is an explanatory connection: Club Secretary for the Leisure Wheels, Doug Crompton (pictured far right), is one of Co-operative Funeralcare’s funeral directors. And hey, if Lance Armstrong is sponsored by a company calld ‘Berry Floor’ who are the rest of us mere mortals to be picky?
The club, founded in 1999, is very active on the organised charity bike rides scene, and recently raised £400 for Christie’s Against Cancer on the Manchester to Blackpool.
