Here’s a fascinating preview of tomorrow’s eleventh stage of the 2012 Giro d’Italia, the longest of the race.
Team IG-Sigma Sport’s Daniel Lloyd, a veteran of two Giri, and former Team Sky rider, Dario Cioni, give the view a rider’s eye view on how events could unfold over 255km.
The video is filled with facts and figures that reveal the effort required of the riders: some 6,000 calories burned on a stage, 90 to 95 per cent of heart rate required in the effort to make a breakaway, sustained for two to five minutes, sometimes more, before the bunch lets up and allows the escapees to go clear.
Lloyd and Cioni take to their bikes to experience the Vico climb, a 3.5km ramp to be encountered by the riders after 240km, and the run into the finish into Montecatini Terme.
