Sustrans urging people to get on their bikes

Sustrans is urging people to get out on their bikes this summer and rack up what it has dubbed ‘Fresh Air Miles’, by participating in one of the many sponsored bike rides taking place as part of National Bike Week – the UK’s biggest nationwide cycling event – from 13 to 21 June.

All are welcome to join a ride, regardless of age, cycling ability or experience. Katie Aartse-Tuyn, Sustrans Volunteer Ranger Coordinator, says: “There’s no better way to experience the breathtaking British scenery than by bike.

“Joining in with a Fresh Air Miles ride during Bike Week is a great way to get active, meet people and make the most of the outdoors this summer. The money raised will be vital in helping us make active and environmentally-friendly travel accessible to all.”

Many of the rides will take place on the National Cycle Network, which covers more than 12,000 miles across the UK. Sustrans maintains the network with the help of more than 2,500 Volunteer Rangers. It is seeking to raise £30,000 from Fresh Air Mile sponsored rides across Britain this summer, to help with expansion and maintenance of the network.
