Great Britain has enjoyed better World Championships, that much is for certain.

Ahead of this year’s UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Cali, Colombia, when British Cycling announced their performance squads for the coming year, the talk was of Rio 2016 preparations starting for real from now.

But in Colombia things did not go exactly to plan – in fact, Ed Clancy said their time in South America had been a disaster from the start.

Not that there were no high points – two gold medals, a silver and a bronze, all earned by Britain’s female riders, mean there are still reasons to be cheerful.

And while British Cycling will no doubt be setting the ball rolling for a full debrief as they head back to these shores, we have compiled our own observations over the following pages.
