The power meter market has exploded in recent years and whereas SRM used to be the dominant force at the top level of professional cycling, now the likes of Stages, Pioneer, Power2Max and Quarq all have a slice of the WorldTour pie.
And for 2016 there’s a new player after Marcel Kittel and Tom Boonen’s Etixx-QuickStep team announced a partnership with 4iiii Innovations.
4iiii the Precision in 2015; a crank-mounted, left-sided power meter not dissimilar to Stages. Etixx-QuickStep, however, will use the newly-announced, two-sided Precision Pro power meter.
The two pods, one mounted on either crank arm, have a combined weight of 25g and are ANT+ and Bluetooth compatible. While the one-side Precision power meter doubled left leg power to arrive at an estimated overall figure, the Precision Pro measures, and can distinguish between, both left and right leg power.
The founder of 4iiii Innovations, Kip Fyfe, previously launched Dynastream Innovations, the company which developed the ANT+ protocol before selling it to Garmin.
Etixx-QuickStep claimed their first win of the 2016 season on stage one of the Tour de San Luis, a 21km team time trial.
UK pricing and availability for the 4iiii Precision Pro power meter is to be confirmed.
