Adidas launch autumn/winter clothing range

German firm launch range of Classics-inspired winter gear for men and women

Adidas are back. In the last couple of years the German company’s made a concerted effort to return to the cycling market, and their autumn/winter 2016 range features jackets, tights and gilets for men and women.

First up is the Belgements jacket. Created for the tough conditions associated with the spring Classics, the jacket is designed to be lightweight and packable, but still weatherproof enough to be used as an outer layer in the toughest of conditions. Continuing their theme of making bike clothing as light as possible, Adidas claim the Belgements jacket weighs 335g, and is made from a 4-way stretch, wind blocking padded shell fabric. Inside it has 40g Primaloft Sport padding, placed around the heat zones on the body.

The lower part of the jacket is splash resistant, and the elasticated hem at the bottom can be tightened to provide a better fit if required. To negate the fact that it’s only available in black, there are reflective dots on the upper arms and reflective logos as a nod to visibility. The men’s Belgements jacket comes in at £140, and the women’s version is at £135. There are a couple more colour options than the men’s jacket, with a white and a yellow on top of the classic black.

The Belgements jersey is designed to provide a good balance between warmth and breathability, making it ideal for high tempo winter riding

One step down from that is the men’s and women’s Belgements Jersey (£95). It’s made from the same 4-way stretch, wind blocking fabric as the jacket, but without the Primaloft padding. The fabric is also hydrophilic, meaning it’ll manage moisture well and there are mesh inserts under the arms to help with temperature control.

Adidas also claim that the jersey is aerodynamic, using fighter plane inspired ‘LeadingEdge’ sleeves and ‘TrailingEdge’ hems to provide a marginal gain for riders. On the back, the ‘3+1’ pocket design features three traditional pockets and one zipped, waterproof pocket – fairly standard on most jerseys now.

The Netz.Werk sleeveless baselayer (£35) is a mesh construction designed to wick moisutre and provide a solid base for any winter clothing ensemble.

All the pieces in the range come in women’s and men’s versions, with the women’s Belgements jacket coming in £5 cheaper than the men’s at £135

On top of the upper body options, Adidas have also designed matching Belgements bib tights (£150). Construction is similar to the jacket and jersey, using a similar 4-way stretch fabric, but the lower legs are made from ‘Miti Thermodream’, a fleecy fabric designed to provide insulation on cold rides.

All the items are available in men’s and women’s versions.
