Christmas gift guide 2013: items for less than £50

A selection of 'musts' for the cyclist in your life this festive period, none of which will break the bank

Lights, as we have already discussed, are an absolute must in winter. For less than £20, you can grab a lightweight pair of emergency lights, but anybody wanting to venture out under cover of darkness needs something more – and for £49.95 the Exposure TraceR rear light fits the billing perfectly. It is now our ‘go to’ option – lightweight and easy to mount it is suitable for commuting and night riding.

The Exposure TraceR rear light is compact but packs plenty of punch

It is USB-rechargeable too, through a micro-USB lead which is provided, and the tool-free mounting and simple use makes it a fantastic option. Most importantly though, it is bright – the claimed maximum output of 75 lumens is very bright for a rear light, and it also comes with two further settings which are easy to operate. The compact light weighs just 39 grams too, despite the mean punch it is packing.
