The first store in a new chain of specialist bike shops from Halfords has opened in central London.
The Cycle Republic chain has been resurrected five years after the last store closed its doors, with the first of the new shops located in Euston.
A rapid expansion programme is planned, with a second store set to open in January, and while the first shops will be in London, future Cycle Republic stores are planned for major ‘cycling towns and cities’ across the UK.
Bike brands stocked include Pinarello, Cinelli, Boardman and 13, the new in-house label from Halfords launched in September.
The Euston store has over 1,000 new lines exclusive to Cycle Republic, with 60 per cent of the clothing, helmet and footwear range made up of new products from the likes of Pearl Izumi, Giordana, Sportful and Gore Bike Wear. A click and collect service is available through www.cyclerepublic.com.
The shop also reflects the increasing number of female cyclists, with 30 per cent of the in-store range made up of female-specific products across clothing, helmets and footwear.
Sixteen staff have been employed at the Euston store, which includes a workshop manned by three technicians and a full-time bike builder. The workshop offers bike servicing and repairs at ‘competitive prices’, with courtesy bikes available to keep riders on the road when extensive repairs as required. Test rides are also offered for riders in the market for a new machine.
“Opening the doors of Cycle Republic Euston Square is a major milestone for us,” said Halfords CEO Matt Davies. “The in-store range, colleague expertise and enthusiasm are perfect for making cycling more accessible to London and we look forward to welcoming the cycling community.”
