Time launches Xpro pedal with larger platform and ‘more aerodynamic’ design

Three pedals in new range: Xpro 15, 12 and 10

Time has launched a successor to the Xpresso pedal, with the new Xpro offering a larger platform and, according to the French brand, a more aerodynamic design.

The Xpresso has been a long-time RCUK favourite – and featured in the 2017 RCUK 100 – thanks to its knee-friendly float and iClic engagement mechanism. The Xpro retains the core iClic engagement system, whereby the pedal’s flexion blade is pre-opened to make clipping in easier. However, Time says the mechanism has been redesigned to offer ‘more positive engagement’ and ‘be more comfortable’.

Time has launched the Xpro road pedal range

The redesigned pedal has a larger surface area, increasing in size from 725mm2 compared to 700mm2 for the Xpresso, apparently improving power transfer and stability.

The Xpro is also visible curvier than its predecessor, which leads to Time’s claimed improvement in aerodynamics, although there are no numbers to back that up – and we’re talking really marginal gains when it comes to pedals, anyway. Still, from an aesthetic point of view, the Xpro has a less aggressive design than the Xpresso.

The Xpro is said to offer a larger surface area and improved aerodynamics over the existing Xpresso pedal

The Xpro will be available in three models: the Xpro 15, Xpro 12 and Xpro 10, weighing 87.3g, 94g and 113g per pedal respectively.

The top-end model’s low weight is achieved by the use of CeramicSpeed bearings and a lightweight, hollow titanium spindle, used on Time’s previous flagship pedal, the Xpresso 15. Otherwise, the Xpro 12 has a (non-hollow) titanium spindle, while the Xpro 10 has a hollow steel axle. All Xpro pedals have a carbon body and three settings for the carbon blade to adjust engagement tension.

UK pricing is to be confirmed.
