Hincapie Elemental Shell Jacket
The UK is rarely short of rain, and we’re expecting boundless opportunities to test the Elemental Shell jacket. Like each of the garments sent for test, the construction is impressive. Close inspection of the jacket reveals taped seams and, like the Arenberg Zero Vest, a very deep collar that seals easily with a simple Velcro patch. Hincapie, it seems, are serious about keeping out the weather.
This is a lightweight jacket, and so one we’re likely to reach for on rides punctuated with showers, rather than those on which we’d roll off the driveway into the rain. Its minimalist design, evident in the slender cuffs, for example, should make it easy to stow in a jersey pocket once the shower has passed.
This packability, however, does not look to have been achieved by skimping on function. The double zip is another feature shared with the Arenberg Zero Vest and there’s a deep pocket on the tail, too. Add reflective detailing, a subtle Hincapie logo in the centre of the shoulder panel, and a robust-looking storm flap to cover the zip, and you have a jacket which appears better-equipped to stave off rainfall than many of its lightweight ilk.
The Hincapie Elemental Shell Jacket is available in black or white and in five sizes from small to XXL. It costs £61.50.
