The new pedal is a worthy evolution from the original with a broader platform, more compact appearance and wider carbon blade
Improvement in the carbon spring from the first version is the most notable upgrade, and the spring is now 23mm wide, forming a larger proportion of the pedal’s base. From there it controls a plate at the rear of the pedal which snaps over the back of the cleat.
By fully integrating the carbon spring into the underside of the pedal, they’ve also slimmed the profile considerably, and LOOK are marketing these as a seriously aerodynamic set of pedals if you’re given to being taken by an outpouring of hyperbole.
One thing riders will definitely notice is the broader platform – a 68mm wide stainless steel plate moulded into the body, making for a much greater contact area with the cleat. The base is now 700mm squared in total which will help to improve power transfer and comfort, while the improved 7mm stack height will help with feel.
The top version of the pedals come with a titanium axle, but there’s also a chromoly version that has lost weight too, albeit only 4g per pair (112g per pedal). The Ti axles are where it’s at if you want real weight savings, though, as they’re just 90g each, making for a 180g set that’ll help you achieve that super light ride you’ve always wanted.
The oversized titanium spindle features two miniature ball bearings and a needle roller bearing, complete with a double seal to ensure they last as long as possible and won’t need regular maintenance.
In short, the new LOOK Keo 2s are light, wide, supportive and equipped with an integrated, aero-profiled spring, making these the pedals of choice for a large percentage of the professional peloton.
