New book helps raise money for Dave Rayner Fund

Story of Yorkshire rider's life, career and legacy features contributions from across the cycling spectrum

Dave Rayner’s story has become a symbolic one in the history of British cycle sport, the prodigious Yorkshire talent tragically killed after a nightclub altercation aged just 27.

The fund set up in his memory has since helped more than 200 British riders compete in Europe and further afield, from David Millar to Ian Stannard and more recently Adam Yates and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Everybody’s Friend tells the story of Dave Rayner’s life, career and legacy

And now, his story has been put into words from his childhood in Bradford, which helped spark his interest in cycling, through being crowned best under-22 rider at the Milk Race three years in a row and racing abroad with Buckler, to his legacy in the 21 years since his death.

“Everybody’s Friend: the life and career of Dave Rayner 1967-1994 and his legacy to cycling” is written by Peter Cossins with contributions from across the cycling spectrum.

Former team-mates and racing colleagues such as Brian Smith and Mario Cipollini feature, as do riders backed by the Fund such as Millar, Stannard and Charly Wegelius.

Published by Pan Y Agua Velo Europe Ltd, all profits from the book – which costs £10 – will go to the Dave Rayner Fund.
