Schwalbe Durano (£34.99)
The Schwalbe Durano is a first-class all-weather training tyre thanks to its combination of relatively low weight, impressive grip in the wet and excellent puncture protection, without giving up too much in rolling resistance.
The Durano, which has a dual compound construction, has been updated for 2015 with a new profile which has shed 10g from the weight.
It’s available in three widths: 23mm (225g), 25mm (245g) and the plush 28mm (290g) pictured above, which would make a superb (and plush) winter tyre if your frame has the necessary clearance.
If you’re after even more puncture protection, then the Durano DD has ‘Double Defense’ puncture protection, though the weight jumps to 275g for a 23mm tyre, and the Durano Plus is tougher still, with an additional ‘SmartGuard’ puncture protection belt. Again, that has an impact of weight, jumping to 340g for a 23mm tyre, and that will likely have an impact on speed.
We think the Durano is the best bet for performance-minded riders who want a reliable, high-mileage training tyre which is still fairly light and fast.
