Fresh out of the box, the latest product from Sussex-based USE is aimed at regular road riders looking for long-distance comfort and a wide range of riding positions that does not necessarily include an extreme racing crouch.
The Summit 100% carbon road bar features a 31.8mm centre section that narrows down only when it reaches the upper bend, leaving a round section upper comfortable to grip at any angle. The centre section and area s under the brake levers have a roughened high-friction finish to lower the required clamping force and a channel on the underside of the bar uppers has twin-bore cable guides to ease cable installation.
The bend form itself may be described as compact, with a moderate depth of 145mm, a shortish reach of 95mm and a gentle concave curve along the grip section. Just behind the lever position is a flat patch designed to accommodate the adductor muscles of the thumb.
USE offers the bar in the four “classic” widths: 400mm, 420mm, 440mm and 460mm, outside-to-outside, at a suggested retail price of £225.
