How to: Elinor Barker’s track cycling tips

Team pursuit world champion shares advice on getting started, training and stepping it up

To take it to the next level, I think you just have to do loads of racing. For kids especially, there’s so much racing in the summer and there’s loads of omniums [multi-discipline events] and you can get through to organised finals from them.

The key to success is to race, race, race (pic: Alex Broadway/SWpix.com)

Things like the UK School Games and Revolution Series are really good, because they just get you loads of experience and you can get spotted from there and get onto the talent teams. They’ll take you to races abroad and that’s where you can really start trying to get noticed and to step up to the seniors.
