Here’s another fascinating insight into the 2012 Giro d’Italia with Team IG-Sigma Sport’s Daniel Lloyd.
Lloyd, who rode the 2010 and 2011 Giri, takes to his bike to ride some of the climbs on Sunday’s 169km fifteenth stage from Busso Arsizio to Lecco.
Numbers are everything in modern cycling and Lloyd describes how shedding just one kilo of body weight can be worth up to six seconds an hour on long climbs.
The elite professionals contesting the Giro will be targeting an output of 6.5 watts per kilo at the end of five and six hour days spent on the steepest climbs.
Who’ll be first into Lecco? Check back on Sunday for our report and stunning images from official WorldTour photographer, Stefano Sirotti.
