Tour de France: Eurosport announce TV schedule

Eurosport has announced its broadcast schedule ahead of the 2011 Tour de France, with the world’s top-ranked cyclist, Philippe Gilbert, to provide a view from the peloton.

The Belgian one-day specialist, who earlier this year completed a hat-trick of Ardennes’ Classics victories, will provide daily analysis of the day’s action.

The Tour leaves Vendée on Saturday before arriving in Paris 21 stages and 3,430km later on Sunday July 24.

The peloton heads into the Pyrenees on stages 12, 13 and 14 before the fireworks kick off on stage 18, as the race reaches the Alps and its highest point with the climb of the Col Algen at 2744m before a mouth-watering finish at the top of Galibier 24 hours later.

Stage 19 starts in Modane, climbing the Col du Télégraph, Galibier for a second time and the 21 hairpins of Alpe d’Huez.

David Harmon and four-time green jersey winner Sean Kelly will be in the Eurosport commentary box, while James Richardson will be joined by 2004 Paris-Roubaix winner Magnus Backstedt, Rapha Condor-Sharp team manager John Herety and cycling journalist and author William Fotheringham in the studio.
