CTC Challenge Rides for 2008

Dates for the Cyclists’ Touring Club’s series of Challenge Rides, the only sportive events to raise money to improve cycling for all, have been announced by the CTC.

1st June 2008 – David Duffield Challenge – Corsham.

Join inimitable TV cycling commentator David Duffield on his favourite on and off-road routes in the stunning Wiltshire countryside. The route includes chalk White Horses, Avebury Rings, Salisbury Plain and Stonehedge. Small wheeled bicycle inventor Alex Moulton is once again opening up his home in Bradford in Avon for refreshments en route.

21st June 2008 – Ron Kitching Memorial Challenge – York.

This challenge is named after one of the UK’s most prominent and colourful cyclists. The ride includes Ron¹s favourite routes over the North Yorkshire Moors including the spectacular scenery of the Vale of York, before the challenging yet rewarding climb of White Horse bank.

31st August 2008 – Phil & Friends Challenge – Peak District.

Now firmly established as the UK¹s match for the Etape du Tour, Tour de France commentator, Phil Liggett has joined up the most challenging routes in the Peak District. The route doesn¹t disappoint with beautiful scenery and challenging terrain including Winnats Pass and Holme Moss.

150km and 100km Romps

CTC Challenge rides offer something for every cyclist with the option of family routes or 150km and 100km romps across some of the most picturesque and challenging terrain in the country.

The rides follow a simple formula: rewarding routes, stunning scenery, great camaraderie, coupled with the satisfaction of completing the route and the knowledge that you are raising vital funds for CTC Charitable Trust.

TV’s voice of cycling Phil Liggett said “A spectacular win like last year¹s Highway Code victory deserves a spectacular celebratory ride. This event is a unique way to support cycling while enjoying some stunning scenery there’s never been a more important time to help us make cycling safer on the roads.”

Entry

Entry to the rides, which are way-marked, costs £12.50 for CTC members and £15.00 for non-members. All participants will receive certificates, and special event merchandise will also be available.
