Rafal Majka (Tinkoff-Saxo) proved once again there is life after Alberto Contador for Tinkoff-Saxo, as he claimed his third Tour de France stage win on stage 11.
Majka won twice last year and claimed the King of the Mountains prize after Contador had abandoned through injury and this time out, the day after Contador saw his GC hopes dashed, delivered a timely confidence boost to his team.
Attacking on the Col du Tourmalet, the Pole escaped the clutches of the breakaway to solo to victory, with Dan Martin’s combative ride earning him second place.
There was more good news for Tinkoff-Saxo in the race for the green jersey too, with Peter Sagan claiming second at the intermediate sprint to regain the points classification lead.
Chris Froome, meanwhile, and his Team Sky team-mates, were able to play it more defensively, comfortably defending the yellow jersey on the second day in the Pyrenees.
