Michal Kwiatkowski has already shown his sprinting credentials – though they were overshadowed somewhat by Peter Sagan – at Tirreno-Adriatico when he moved into the blue jersey on stage three. And he did the same as part of Mark Cavendish’s lead-out on stage seven at the same race.
Then again, on stage two in the Basque Country he came up just short of pipping Ben Swift to second place, before securing third on stage three. It is three consecutive top three finishes for the Polish champion now – which if time bonuses had been up for grabs would have had him sitting very pretty. As it is, he is still in a good place and certainly in good form. Omega Pharma-Quickstep have plenty of reason to be cheerful about their young protégée’s hopes this season.
