Brits on Tour
A record-equalling ten Brits will start the Tour de France in Utrecht on Saturday (July 4) after Bury-born twins Adam and Simon Yates were confirmed as being part of Orica-GreenEDGE’s team.
The 22-year-olds join Team Sky’s yellow jersey contender Chris Froome and his four British team-mates Geraint Thomas, Luke Rowe, British champion Peter Kennaugh and Ian Stannard; Mark Cavendish (Etixx-QuickStep), Steve Cummings (MTN-Qhubeka) and Alex Dowsett (Movistar).
It equals a record set in 1955, when Brian Robinson was the best-placed of the ten Brits on the startline and is another fillip for British Cycling.
But what should we be expecting from the Brits this year? Can Froome repeat his race-winning heroics of 2013? Will 2011 green jersey Cavendish add to his 25 stage wins?
We have taken a closer look at each of the ten’s form, Tour experience and 2015 expectations over the following pages.
