On-bike video footage
On-bike video footage
Innovations like on-bike bike footage could change the way professional cycling is broadcast, with the newly-created Velon group driving the campaign for change.
Will it make much of a difference? Well, the ebb and flow of a race will remain undisturbed by the new cameras but the way we can view the key moments will change.
Last year’s trials of on-bike footage meant we were treated to John Degenkolb’s sprint against Mark Cavendish at the Tour of California and a riders-eye view of the Tour de France Grand Depart, among other wheel-to-wheel moments. Those videos were published on YouTube after the race – but will we see live on-bike footage on television during the race itself?
There are bigger changes afoot in professional cycling but we’re certainly in favour of more on-bike footage and the insight and excitement it can bring fans.
