Colombians are renowned for their climbing ability, but even with that in mind the way the South Americans have taken charge of the final week of the Giro d’Italia has been impressive.
Julian Arredondo (Trek Factory Racing), who has dominated the King of the Mountains classification since first capturing the blue jersey became the third of his countrymen – after Nairo Quintana (Movistar) and Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) – to win a stage of this year’s race.
And with Fabio Duarte (Team Colombia) completing a Colombian one-two on the day, and Quintana and Uran continuing to occupy the top two places of the general classification, they have certainly given their compatriots something to cheer.
