Giro d’Italia 2014: final five observations

Aru impresses, Rogers returns, Quintana triumphs, and more

He came as favourite and he conquered, but Nairo Quintana’s Giro d’Italia victory was about so much more than that.

The Colombian’s grit and resilience and the extraordinary climbing skills of the Movistar man made it a performance to remember over the three weeks.

As a spectacle, the 97th edition of the Giro d’Italia certainly delivered – crashes, controversy and extraordinary riding aplenty.

But with the first Grand Tour of the year now done and dusted, where does it leave us?
