The Tour de France is not won in a day, but a blistering ride by Chris Froome in the individual time trial ensured he is stepped ever closer to emulating Sky team mate Bradley Wiggins’ success last year.
Froome put more than two minutes into some of his main rivals and now sits pretty, 3’25” clear at the top of the general classification.
Only one man, world time trial champion Tony Martin, went faster than Froome on the day as the German underlined his dominance on a TT bike against the backdrop of Mont St Michel.
