The 2014 Vuelta a Espana continues to enthrall, after a mountain-top finish on the Alto San Miguel which was full of drama.
Pre-race favourite Nairo Quintana (Movistar) crashed early on, his second fall in two days seeing him leave the race in an ambulance with a displaced fracture of the shoulder blade.
The Colombian climbing sensation’s absence did not dampen the excitement of the stage, however, as the remaining GC men – led by red jersey Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) faced off on the brutal slopes of the Alto San Miguel.
With attacks aplenty and a second prestigious win of the season for Fabio Aru (Astana), Stefano Sirotti was on hand to capture the action.
