Giro d’Italia 2014: stage five – rider reaction

The peloton reacts as Diego Ulissi becomes first Italian winner of this year's race

Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) continued to prove his undoubted talent with his second career Giro d’Italia stage win, beating Cadel Evans (BMC Racing) on the Viggiano.

Ulissi, who also won a stage at the Tour Down Under this year on his way to third overall, couldn’t be caught after launching his uphill sprint with impeccable timing.

The 24-year-old is the first Italian to win a stage of this year’s race, but he wasn’t the only rider satisfied with his day’s work.

Here’s the best of the Twitter reaction as the riders reflect on stage five and look ahead to the monstrous 257km stage six.
