Michael Matthews wins but crash marrs stage

Michael Matthews (Orica-GreenEDGE) stormed to victory in the pink jersey after a gruelling 257km stage to Montecassino but a huge crash marred the day’s proceedings in the Giro d’Italia.

Many riders hit the deck, including Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) who was forced to abandon, while other contenders for overall victory suffered deep cuts and abrasions.

Unsurprisingly, much of the post-stage reaction centred around the injured riders, and we have rounded up the best Twitter reaction to stage six.
