The men’s time trial sees home favourite David Millar defend the gold medal he won in Delhi four years ago as he prepares for the final Commonwealth Games of his career.
Unlucky to miss out on Garmin-Sharp’s selection for the Tour de France, which denied him a final swansong in the race, he has had ample time to get over the illness which hampered his national championships.
The two men who joined Millar on the podium four years ago – Alex Dowsett (England) and Luke Durbridge (Australia) – also return, with Dowsett leading the English charge in Sir Bradley Wiggins’ absence.
Durbridge has the opportunity to test his form at the Tour de France on stage 20, while Australian national champion Michael Hepburn and perennial time trial contender Rohan Dennis are also included in the Australian squad.
Geraint Thomas (Wales) – runner-up to Wiggins at the British national time trial championships – is another competing on the back of the Tour de France meanwhile, as is Canadian champion Svein Tuft.
In the women’s event, British champion Emma Pooley (England), runner-up Katie Archibald (Scotland) and former junior world champion Elinor Barker (Wales) are all in their respective squads.
Outside of the British nations, world championship runner-up Linda Villumsen (New Zealand) – who won silver four years ago – will be among the favourites.

Men and women’s individual time trial
Brits to watch
David Millar (Scotland) – In the absence of Olympic champion Sir Bradley Wiggins, the field has opened up again. Millar will be keen to bow out on a high, by defending the title he won four years ago, while Geraint Thomas (Wales), if he is in good form post-Tour de France, looked in great shape against the clock at the national championships. In the women’s event, Emma Pooley (England) looked back to her best at the national championships and the 2010 world time trial champion races on the back of a fiercely strong Giro d’Italia Femminile.
