Olympic champions Ed Clancy and Owain Doull set for Revolution

Great Britain team-mates to go head-to-head in Manchester in reformatted Revolution Championship

Olympic team pursuit champions Ed Clancy and Owain Doull will return to the boards for the first round of this year’s Revolution Championship in Manchester on Saturday September 17.

Clancy and Doull, team-mates in Rio, will be rivals in Manchester as they go head-to-head representing JLT-Condor and Team Wiggins, respectively.

Clancy, the first rider to ever win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the team pursuit, has enjoyed great success at Revolution before, while Doull is one of the country’s undoubted rising stars not only the track but the road too.

And Clancy is anticipating a tense battle between the two riders, as they bid to qualify their teams for the new Revolution Champions League, where seven WorldTour teams are awaiting them later in the winter.

“To go and win the Gold medal representing Great Britain was great but I’m dead keen to put on a good show at these Revolutions for JLT Condor,” he said. “I think it’ll be a good battle between ourselves and Team Wiggins.

Team Wiggins emerged victorious last year, and with their track-centric squad are among the favourites to qualify after the three rounds for the all-new Champions League.

A further round in Manchester and another at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow await before then, but Doull is keen to get off to a good start.

“I’ve ridden the Revolution a lot; there aren’t many platforms you can race at in front of a packed crowd of 5,000 people and I think, actually, by the time you get to something like the Olympics, it gives you an advantage because it’s a natural environment for you.

“We won it [the Revolution Series] last year with Team Wiggins and we’ll be trying to replicate that performance this year.”
