While team mates Rigoberto Uran and Chris Froome took the main plaudits for their performances during 2013, Colombian climbing ace Henao had another strong year for Team Sky. Stage wins on Alto do Malhao at the Volta ao Algarve and La Lejana at the Tour of the Basque Country put him into the leader’s jersey at both before he finished second at La Fleche Wallone.
Henao then performed a strong support role for first Wiggins and then Uran at the Giro, before enjoying a successful Tour of Poland where he finished fifth overall thanks to his consistency along the punchy parcours. And though both he and Uran endured a less successful Vuelta a Espana, Henao still performed consistently enough to finish a respectable 28th overall and will doubtless perform another key support role for his team next year.
