Registration for the gruelling Endura Alpen-Traum, a 252km ride across the width of the Alps in one day, with nearly 20,000 feet of climbing, is now open.
The demanding challenge returns for its second edition on September 13 after a successful debut last year, with riders tasked with riding some of the most demanding climbs of Germany, Austria and Italy.
Taking in famous Alpine passes such as Oberjoch, Hahntennjoch, Pillerhoehe, Reschenpass, Passo Umbrail and Passo Stelvio, the challenge is certainly not one for the faint-hearted.
Climbing from Sothofen, Germany, up the Oberjoch Pass from the very start, the leg-sapping ride begins as it means to go on.
Stilfser Joch, at 9,045ft, is one of Europe’s highest passes accessible on wheels and must also be scaled, with riders already having more than 200km in their legs by the time it features.
Last year’s route also coupled breathtaking Alpine scenery with changeable weather conditions including snow atop Hahntennjoch.
Those wishing to tick the Alpen-Traum off their bucket list though can enjoy expert organisation, an Endura expo, a post-race pasta party and awards ceremony.
With a shorter, though equally demanding 152km ride, which starts in the Inntal valley before following the same route as the main event is also available.
Registration for the event is now open, and more information can be found at www.alpen-traum.com.
