Five sportives to ride in Yorkshire this summer

With one month until the Tour de France, want to see what all the fuss is about? Here are five events to put in your calendar


The Detour
Various dates in June and July

The Detour is not a sportive but a series of supported guided rides in Yorkshire, starting and finishing in Harrogate, where Mark Cavendish hopes to pull on the yellow jersey after stage one.

Eleven dates are available, from June 21 to Sunday 27, and each ride covers a 100km course “featuring the best secret climbs, white-knuckle descents and beautiful back roads. The Detour takes you to the hidden cycling gems that Le Tour wishes it could reach but can’t.”

Rides offered by The Detour start and finish in Harrogate, where Mark Cavendish hopes to claim the yellow jersey

Each ride has a maximum of ten riders, plus two guides and a support vehicle. Breakfast and lunch, on-bike nutrition, post-ride refreshments and a massage are included in the £189 package.
