Tenth annual London Bicycle Film Festival to open on Thursday October 3

The London Bicycle Film Festival returns to the Barbican Centre next month for its tenth season.

RoadCyclingUK and its Factory Media sister titles are backing the BFF13 event, which includes an extensive programme of films celebrating the bicycle in its many different forms.

The feature film programme includes Daniel Denick’s Moonrider, a film charting the loneliness of the competitive rider, and described as “honest and heartbreaking”.

Janapar, a feature film by James Newton and Tom Allen, was four years in the making, and records the true story of one man’s ride across thirty-two countries.

Ciclo, a film by Andrea Martinez Crowther, tells the story of two brothers retracing a cross-continental ride made 56 years earlier.

Feature films are not the only works on the programme, however. A series of short films includes the highly rated Ryokou, tracing the two seasons spent by Australian former world and Commonwealth champion, Shane Perkins, a key rival to Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny, in Japanese kierin racing.

Rih Van Der Linden’s short, Soigneur, follows Simon van Beneden’s return to the scene of an accident suffered while he was a promising junior rider.

And films will represent just some of the programme. The event starts with an opening night party at the Russett, Hackney Downs Studios, on Thursday October 3.

The LBFF13 will host Transport For London’s second Cycling Symposium to discuss the future of cycling in the capital, on Friday October 4. “Unique viewpoints” are promised, from a broad range of speakers.

The following day, Saturday October 5, the LBFF will join forces with women’s track racing series, VeloJam, at Herne Hill Velodrome.

On Sunday October 6, a guided road ride will roll out from Athlon Sports in Chelmsford, and an annual bike polo tournament will be held in town.

The BFF was founded in New York in 2001 to promote cycling and now visits 25 cities each year, including London, Mexico City, Moscow and Tokyo, hosting a series of events to celebrate cycling, including artistic collaborations. For full details, follow the link below.
