Thomson Bike Tours offer ‘Barcelona Escape’ to keep the legs spinning this winter

Fancy a winter training trip? Why not head for Barcelona?

While Mallorca and Tenerife may be the more renowned locations for winter training camps and cycling trips abroad, Thomson Bike Tours are hoping to buck that trend with a four-day escape to Barcelona.

With three departure dates scheduled – December 1, January 12 and February 2 – the trip starts with airport transfers on the Thursday night, followed by a Friday morning 110km ride on ‘deserted roads and leafy lanes’ before lunch and coffee at the Pave bike shop and dinner in the old town.

Saturday then takes riders through the vineyards, with time in the afternoon to explore Barcelona, before a what is described as a ‘Thomson Special’ on the Sunday. Be prepared to earn your lunch, they say.

The whole trip takes in 360km of riding with a total elevation of 5,380m to ensure you keep your legs spinning while the UK battles through another cold, wet winter.

Staying at the Avenida Sofia Hotel, which boasts a wellness centre with pools treatment rooms and spa facilities, alongside being handily placed for the beach, the trip costs €795 per person, based on double occupancy.

A single supplement of €250 applies, while there is a ten per cent discount available for non-riders looking to accompany you on the trip.
