For anyone watching the Tour de France last year, and in particular Yorkshire’s sensational Grand Depart, it wouldn’t have taken long to realise that the sport of cycling has taken a serious shift in popularity in the UK.
There were literally millions of fans and spectators lining the roads to witness the carnival whizz by, with each and every person adding to the unique atmosphere along the way.
Gone are the days of cycling being a minority sport thanks to world domination on the track, Olympic medals, the emergence of Team Sky, multiple Tour de France stage victories and the overall race.
A decade ago such success would’ve been hard to predict but today cycling is more than just a means of getting fit, it’s fashionable too and with the infrastructure in place to support every area of interest, from sportives to simply commuting to work or heading out for some fresh air, there’s never been a better time to get involved.
