Tickets selling fast for London UCI Track World Cup round

British Cycling announce 'sell-out Saturday' and urge fans to snap up remaining seats

A thrilling atmosphere is expected when London hosts a round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in December, with tickets for the Saturday night already sold out.

British Cycling are urging fans to take advantage of the tickets remaining for the three-day event’s other sessions, to avoid missing out on a stellar cast of riders returning to the Lee Valley VeloPark.

Alongside marking the return to the London boards for some of 2012’s medal winners, the event – part of UK Sport’s Gold Event Series – also has UCI ranking points up for grabs to determine qualification for the 2015 World Championships and the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The second of three rounds at this year’s World Cup, the event – taking place from December 5 to December 7 – is the only round to be held in Europe and Great Britain’s track queen Laura Trott is anticipating a special weekend.

She said: “The Lee Valley VeloPark is such an iconic venue for cycling in the UK and it will be something truly special when the UCI Track Cycling World Cup comes to London.

“Growing up not far from the venue, I’ve been overwhelmed by the support people in London and around the UK have shown for cycling since 2012.

“It’s great to see so many fans have already secured their place at the Track World Cup this year and I hope to be back in the velodrome in December, reliving those unforgettable moments to another roaring crowd.”

Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, added: “It’s been great to see the response from fans for what promises to be another action packed Track World Cup.

“Yet again the atmosphere in the velodrome is going to be unforgettable as Britain gets the chance to feel the adrenaline of the London 2012 host venue.”

Despite the Saturday night being sold out, tickets are available for general purchase through Ticketmaster now, with Trott likely to be going for gold in the omnium on the Sunday night.

Friday night’s finals are also still available, which home fans will be hoping will see Great Britain’s newly-recrowned European champion team pursuit line-ups in action.
