Italian helmet specialists Kask have announced that the Protone, their all-singing, all-dancing aero road helmet used by Team Sky, will be available to consumers this month. 

The Protone was originally unveiled at the Tour de France last year, and Kask have been working with the team since then to further refine the design, reportedly improving upon aerodynamics, strength and comfort.

So the version that’s coming to market is effectively the Protone Mk II and Kask say the 210g lid boasts one of the lowest aerodynamic coefficients of any vented helmet around, without compromising on ventilation.

The helmet is moulded using Kask’s ‘Multi In-Moulding Technology’, which creates the polycarbonate cover on the top, base ring and back. That part’s then joined to the inner polystyrene cap in order to improve shock absorption.

The Protone will retail at £195 and we’ve currently got one on test, so watch this space for a review.
