Never one to shirk a gruelling challenge, cycling hard man Mike Cotty has revealed he will be attempting to ride 666km non-stop through the Alps next week.
Two years ago, Mike successfully tackled a monstrous 690km coast-to-coast ride through the Pyrenees, riding non-stop to complete the route in an astonishing 30hrs 43mins.
And now, after releasing a tantalising teaser video earlier this month, Mike has realised the full gory details of his latest daring challenge, which features 17 cols and over 16,000m of climbing.
He said: “Whatever happens I’m sure it’s going to be an incredible experience!”
Mike has been training for his punishing task all season, with his 300-mile non-stop ride from Herne Bay, Kent, to Southampton almost a leisurely jaunt compared to what lies ahead.
A veteran of the Etape du Tour – he finished 22nd in 2006 – Mike’s draining journey will include famous Alpine climbs such as the Madeline, Glandon and Turini.
Starting in Evian Les Bains on Monday August 5 at 8:00am GMT – weather permitting – Mike estimates he will reach his finishing point in Nice 36 hours later.
As with his last phenomenal ride, Mike’s ride will be tracked live on RoadCyclingUK, using a tracker in his accompanying Mavic service vehicle.
A two-part video series, produced by Mavic, will then be released shortly afterwards.
