UK Sportive of the Year
1. Ride London-Surrey 100
2. Wiggle Dragon Ride
3. Etape Caledonia
More than 15,000 riders, including RoadCyclingUK’s Mark Bishop, completed the inaugural Ride London-Surrey 100 – an event which saw the roads of London and Surrey closed for cyclists for a day, with the morning’s 100-mile sportive followed by a road race won by FDJ’s Arnaud Démare.
It’s an event which has the potential to change cycling in the UK forever and, with both the sportive and road race broadcast live on BBC television, more than 50,000 cyclists were inspired to enter the ballot for the 2014 sportive within the first 24 hours of it opening.
It’s little surprise then that the Ride London-Surrey 100 secured a landslide victory as our UK Sportive of the Year ahead of two long-standing favourites in what is an increasingly packed sportive calendar: the Wiggle Dragon Ride and Etape Caledonia.
