Black Friday 2016: where to find the best road cycling deals

How to bag yourself a bargain when Black Friday mania strikes

It’s Black Friday! Your chance to grab some stupendous bargains on the latest cycling gear. Whether you want to buy a Christmas gift for a two-wheeled fanatic, or are looking to treat yourself (and why not?) there are some huge bargains to be had from some of the biggest retailers in cycling.

If you’re not familiar with Black Friday, it’s an American trend which started as a day of sales on the day after Thanksgiving, and retailers and brands have picked up on the idea on this side of the pond – with many slashing prices accordingly.

Where can you find the best bargains? We’ve rounded up the best places to look for big cycling savings this year. All deals are while stocks last – so get in there quick!

There are cycling bargains galore to be had on Black Friday

Chain Reaction Cycles

Rather than a mad rush for deals on November 25, Chain Reaction Cycles have been offering deals all through November, updating their Black Friday offers every, erm, Thursday.

The final round of offers includes 25% off a Cube Attain road bike, slashing the price from £699 to £519 – a perfect first-time road bike.

You can bag yourself an even bigger saving, with 40% off a Vitus Zenium SL Pro Disc road bike – knocking the price down from £1,499.99 to £899.99. And that’s for a bike with a carbon frame and Shimano Ultegra!

Want to uprade your current bike? You can get 48% off a Shimano Ultegra groupset, cutting the price from £952.99 to £499.99. Ultegra is one of our favourite groupsets – and it’s nothing short of a bargain at that price.

If you want to make the most of your winter training, a turbo trainer let’s you log some quality time in saddle while it’s cold, wet and dark outside. Chain Reaction Cycles are offering 50% off the Elite SuperCrono Power Mag turbo trainer as part of their Black Friday deals. Yours for £109.99.

Or if you’d prefer to get out on the road, whatever the weather, you can get 25% off the dhb Aeron Windslam Roubaix bib tights – now just £67.50.

Wiggle

Having offered a deal a day in 2015, Wiggle are returning to just a day of sales on Black Friday and then another on Cyber Monday (that’s Monday November 28) this year. So what deals are out there?

Let’s start with a stonking deal on the Castelli Gabba 2 jersey – which is half price at £70 in selected colours. The Gabba is one of the most popular jerseys out there – and for good reason. It’s combines a windproof and water resistant fabric with a first-class cut and a host of other features, to keep you protected from the elements.

You can also get 20% off the Wahoo Kickr Snap, taking the price down to £399.99. It’s one of the best smart turbo trainers out there – especially at that price.

We reviewed the DT Swiss RR 21 Dicut aluminium clincher wheelset earlier this year – and called it “one of the best all-round wheelsets on the market” (read the full review here).

We were impressed by the performance for the price – but now you can get 58% off, dropping the price from £659.99 to £275. If you want to upgrade your bike with a lightweight alloy wheelset, that’s outstanding value. Check out the DT Swiss RR 21 Dicut wheels on Wiggle here.

Next up, you can get a huge 50% off the Eddy Merckx Mourenx 69 endurance bike with SRAM Red. The Mourenx is designed to offer the ‘perfect balance of stiffness and compliance’, and has a more relaxed geometry than Eddy Merckx’s race bikes.

Finally, there’s nothing worse than cold feet on the bike – but, luckily for you, Wiggle are offering 33% off the dhb ASV Merino Thermal socks. £8 for a pair of merino socks? You’ll struggle to find a better price online.

Evans Cycles

Evans Cycles’ Black Friday sale actually covers the whole weekend, starting from Friday November 25 and running until ‘Cyber Monday’ on Monday November 28, so you’ll have plenty of time to hunt out a bargain. We’ve done the hard work for you, though, and picked out these top deals.

Exposure make some of the best lights on the market and Evans are offering 30% off on a number of models – check out all the deals on Exposure lights here.

We reckon the pick of the bunch is tthe Exposure Sirius Mk5 front light – now just £69.96. The Sirius Mk5 is a compact light with a maximum output of 550 lumens, making it perfect for commuting or even the odd nighttime training ride. You’ll need a rear light, too, and the Exposure TraceR (now just £34.96) is one of the best out where, in our opinion, with a maximum output of 75 lumens from this compact, USB rechargeable unit.
