Christmas gift guide 2013: money no object ‘dream list’

A superbike? A shop? A WorldTour team? If you had unlimited funds, what could you buy this Christmas?

Let’s face it, a supercar would top many would-be lottery winner’s wish lists: a Ferrari perhaps, or a McLaren-Mercedes – the sort more often found in the upper reaches of motorsport.

But if you prefer two wheels to four, why not get the Formula One car of the bike world instead – the visually stunning Factor Vis Vires, which will set you back a cool £9,999 if equipped with Factor’s new power crank.

The Vis Vires delivered a performance to match its striking looks when RCUK put it the test, but it will set you bike nearly £10,000

Factor’s parent company, bf1 systems, supply force measurement systems to the upper echelons of motor sport, and the visually stunning, and highly rewarding Vis Vires certainly justifies its ‘superbike’ status.

The result of a collaboration between Niner Bikes co-found Steve Domahidy and Factor, the machine’s performance during our testing matched its striking appearance too.

Having failed to gain UCI certification, you will not see the Vis Vires in the professional peloton, but freed from the shackles of such regulations – but still safety compliant, of course – the end product is a high-quality, radical design which raises the bar for bikes at the top end of the price scale.

And while the price-tag means this bike lies firmly in the ‘superbike’ range, substitute the Factor power crank for the Dura Ace Di2, and you are looking at a cost of just £7,999.

Tempting, right?
