Windproof baselayer
A base layer with a windproof chest panel makes obvious sense. Our recent test of dhb’s Vaeon Roubaix jersey revealed that windy conditions troubled it more than sub-zero temperatures. A gilet would have held off the wind, but a windproof base layer might perhaps provide greater insulation. We look forward to finding out when the Windslam long-sleeve base layer becomes available for test. For now, trials have been limited to a select group of riders known collectively as Wiggle-Honda.
The material deployed on the front of the two designs under development (long-sleeve and short-sleeve) is the Windslam fabric that impressed us in our test of the Vaeon Zero bib-tight. Its comparative firmness wasn’t a hindrance to pedaling, but we’d expect it to offer a radically different ‘feel’ to the polyester or merino fabrics typically deployed for base layers.
This layer was designed in the first instance for Wiggle-Honda, but dhb is hoping it will find a market among its customer base. The Windslam Baselayer will be available in men’s and women’s cuts, and with short or long sleeves, in six sizes from XS to XXL. Pricing is to be confirmed.
