Goldline
In the 2014 spring-summer collection, dhb will unveil its Goldline short-sleeve jersey and bib-short, the result of 18 months of development. The garments include bonded seams, and lightweight fabrics (133g for a medium sized jersey) treated to provide UV protection, and worn by members of the Wiggle Honda squad competing in the recent Bay Crits series in Geelong, Australia, as “the dhb Dream Team”. Feedback has been favourable, dhb’s design team claims, with riders reporting that the garments remained cool enough to race in.
The tailoring falls into dhb’s ‘professional’ category, offering a cut close enough for, well, the Wiggle Honda team. The inclusion of details like bonded seams in the jersey, and CyTech’s range-topping Comp HP insert, seamless mesh hems, and bonded bib straps in the short is the result of a conscious attempt by designers to push the envelope and to offer a more sophisticated product than the entry-level garments on which the brand has built its reputation. The bonded seams of the jersey, for example, are aligned and laser cut before being transferred to a separate factory to be included in the construction of the garment.
Such attention to detail comes at a price, but while we’re not yet in a position to judge the product, we’re bound to say that within the sphere of cycle clothing targeted at the luxury end of the market, these garments are far from the most expensive we’ve encountered.
The dhb Goldline short sleeve jersey will be available for men and women, in black with red detailing, and will cost £79.99. The Goldline short will also be available in cuts for men and women, in black only, and will cost £89.99.
