Movistar to ride Canyon bikes in 2014

Nairo Quintana and co get new bike sponsor

Movistar will ride Canyon bikes in 2014 after the German manufacturer announced a sponsorship deal with the world’s number one-ranked team.

Canyon will replace Pinarello as Movistar’s bike sponsor, with the team’s riders, including Tour de France runner-up Nairo Quintana and three-time British time trial champion Alex Dowsett, to have the super-light Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 (voted Bike of the Year by RoadCyclingUK readers), aero Aeroad CF 9.0 and Speedmax CF 9.0 time trial bike at their disposal.

The team’s bikes will be equipped with Campagnolo’s top-of-the-range Super Record EPS groupset, the Italian firm’s wheels, Fizik saddles, Canyon handlebars and stems, and Continental tyres.

A team replica, the Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team Mov, has been added to Canyon’s 2014 range with a retail price of £7,299.

Movistar are the second team to be sponsored by Canyon, with Katusha set to start their third season on the direct sales giant’s bikes. Specialized, who sponsor Astana, Omega Pharma-QuickStep and Tinkoff-Saxo, are the only other manufacturer to supply bikes to more than one WorldTour team.

“We are extremely proud that in 2014 we have the chance to supply yet another top ranked team,” said Canyon’s founder and CEO Roman Arnold.

“Eusebio Unzué’s Movistar Team is the perfect match for us, they had an outstanding year in 2013, that means they are currently placed first in the UCI WorldTour rankings.”
