Pinarello taken over by Louis Vuitton group – could Rapha be next?

L Catterton invest in Italian bike brand and Team Sky sponsor

Italian bike manufacturer and Team Sky sponsor, Pinarello, has been taken over by L Catterton – an investment company part-owned by the Louis Vuitton group.

Pinarello has supplied bikes to Team Sky since the team’s 2010 inception, with Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome winning their Tour de France titles on the brand’s flagship Dogma.

L Catterton has invested in a majority stake in the Treviso-based brand, but Fausto Pinarello, son of founder Giovanni, remains the CEO.

Pinarello hope the partnership will help expand the brand’s global presence, with the aim of opening concept stores ‘in some of the most prestigious capital cities in the world’.

Fausto Pinarello said: “L Catterton’s unparalleled experience in building leading brands and deep understanding of the global consumer market make them the ideal partner for Pinarello.

“With even more passion than the one we have already dedicated so far, we will write a new page of the company story. It is still the story of our company which will continue to be led by the same team that made Pinarello the unique company it is now.

“With L Catterton’s Pinarello will see new growth perspectives; we will not forget our roots and continue our path, creating innovative and high quality products.”

L Catterton was founded in January of this year, as a collaboration between luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (the Louis Vuitton group), Groupe Arnault and Catterton.

London-based cycling apparel and lifestyle brand Rapha is reportedly next on the wishlist of the investment firm.

Michael Farello, managing partner of L Catterton’s North American Growth Fund, added: “With its rich heritage and outstanding management team, Pinarello has been generating double digit revenue growth for more than 10 years.

“We will build on that growth and success as we work to continue the rapid expansion of the Pinarello brand and legacy.”
