New for 2009, the Discover Rutland CiCLE Tour takes place on 25 April.
There are three distances, 100 miles, 50 miles and a 30 km family ride to choose from. Run in conjuction with the International CiCLE Classic race the following day, this is the good opportunity to ride a sportive and enjoy the racing the following morning.
The 100 mile challenge covers terrain typical of Rutland and East Leicestershire; steep, short climbs that come thick and fast on quiet lanes through picturesque villages. The course is deliberately designed to get harder as it progresses, so don’t be fooled by the relatively easy start out of Oakham.
There will be three manned feed stations on the route and mechanical support provided by Rutland Water Cycles. There will also be a Recovery Area at the finish, featuring recovery drink from a leading manufacturer, the opportunity to have a post ride sports massage and hot food cooked fresh on the day. The Recovery Area food and services will not be free but will be provided by local community groups who will be keeping all of their proceeds for their local causes and activities. As a local college is hosting the event there will be an opportunity to shower and change after the event.
The family ride is 30 km over gentle terrain and will benefit from all of the features that accompany the longer rides.
