Cameron Meyer (Orica-GreenEDGE) is seemingly a man for all seasons.
The Australian is a national criterium champion, twice a national time trial champion, a five-time world champion on the track, and now a prologue time trial winner in a WorldTour event.
Meyer made no mistakes over a technical 8.1km course in Quinto and pulled on the first leader’s jersey of the race.
A King of the Mountains victory in the UCI 2.1 Circuit de Sarthe earlier this season proved that Meyer is not entirely without climbing skills, but the Swiss Alps will represent an entirely different challenge.
Defending champion, Rui Costa (Movistar), Tejay Van Gaarderen (BMC Racing), and Ireland’s Dan Martin (Garmin-Sharp) who all finished in relatively close proximity to each other in the prologue, will seek to have their say as the road rises.
